Over 75 portals were developed by government dedicated to the farming sector in order to make farmers aware of developments in technology and connect them better to the market. The Joint Secretary in Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Sanjeev Gupta, explained that for agricultural growth it is imperative that farmers are acquainted with latest technology, especially, mobile technology that can bring about interface required with the farmers.
The department has developed over 75 agriculture information portals and applications under its e-agro drive, Gupta said at a seminar titled 'E-nabled Development, E-Agriculture in India's Current Progress Canvas', organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He added that the government is planning to run projects to bring Information and Communication Technology to the farmers. The portal would keep farmers updated with information on weather conditions and other latest technologies; and help them to connect with market to sell their products at correct prices.
